Information Systems and Statistic
Data Processing Centre (CED)

The Data Processing Center (CED) is the heart of the information system of CoRFiLaC, toward which data and information of various kinds converge, from both inside and outside CoRFiLaC:

  • production and reproduction data, events and diseases of dairy cows coming from various management information systems used by dairy farmers
  • analytical data originated by the several laboratories at CoRFiLaC
  • results of the scientific experimental activity developed by the various sectors
  • data collection related to the PDO activity and to the experimental protocols

The study of the dairy production chain here takes an “information” connotation, ensuring the interaction of the various segments of it, to guide integrated research results.

In addition to ensuring the functioning of the computer system, this section is responsible for:

  • developing software according to the management needs (extension service, workshops, PDO certification, experimental dairy plant, marketing and accounting) and to research projects set up by CoRFiLaC
  • processing the production and reproduction data of dairy cows to optimize management of farms located in the territory of Ragusa
  • ensuring the fairness, integrity and consistency of data and reliability of web service available to farmers aimed to advice on adequacy management practices
  • process outputs of experimental protocols for the use, communication and publication of results of scientific research
  • managing, maintaining and updating CoRFiLaC’s web sites:
  • integrating the web services addressed to consumers with data from the PDO certification activity to ensure the traceability of dairy products .

Another activity of this section is the application of methods of automatic processing (computer vision) to images generated by several experiments. A few examples: pictures of the microstructure of milk or cheese obtained by electron and confocal microscopy, X-ray images of the forms Cosacavaddu of Ragusano PDO cheeses, photos of feed particles and spontaneous essences from pasture.
